Mind/Idea Mapping Software
From Wikipedia, the
free encyclopedia
Mind Mapping software is used to create diagrams of
relationships between ideas or other pieces of information. It has been
suggested that mind mapping software can improve learning/study efficiency up
to 15% over conventional note taking (Farrand et al,2002).
Some Mindmapping software is 3-D, though full 3-D functionality
is difficult to achieve with the forms of interface devices readily available
to users. Some Mapping programs incorporate other learning optimization
techniques including electronic flashcard style testing.
The following is a list of Mind Mapping software.
There are many pieces of software (in alphabetical order) that allow
the creation of mind maps.
3D Topicscape produces 3D
mindmaps and can import and export FreeMind, structured text and other 2D
formats.

the interface can be overwhelming (even distracting) for basic idea
organizing.

- i2Brain[26] takes the next step - away from a
flat tree to a network of ideas with depth. Multi-platform.
- InfoRapid
KnowledgeMap[27] achieves some of the same MindMap type
organization, but is constructed to seem more like an outline.
- Inspiration[28] is a cross-platform Mac OS X,
Windows and Palm visual learning application which recently (version 8)
introduced true mind-mapping support.
- I-Navigation[29] is a focus+context mind-mapping application.

and filter features make it ideal to find things that are hard to
categorize.
- XMIND
helps users visualize their thinking, daily planning, and decision-making
and collaboration activities by providing them with an easy way of drawing
mind maps. Based on the concept of "Whole Brain Thinking" the
technique uses both sides of the brain, linking left brain ( logic, text and numbers) and right brain thinking (colors,
music, and spatial sensation). Mind maps allow people to, therefore,
freely and quickly reorganize ideas and to create logical relationships
linking their ideas in a holistic, relational, rather than linear way.
Available on Windows, MacOS/X, Linux in Chinese and English.
